Christopher and Paisley Russell return to the milking barn after finishing their chores bottle feeding the calves after school. Catherine, Polly, and Paisley Russell talk in between chores. Catherine and Polly milks the cows in the afternoon while Paisley makes sure all the calves are fed. The Russell family dairy cows have their morning meal. The cows are fed twice a day by Chris in the morning, and one of his children in the afternoon. Paisley gets a kiss from a calf after feeding her an afternoon bottle. Paisley comes home immediately after school every day to do her farm work. This includes feeding the pigs, calves, and helping to move calves into different pens as they grow. Christopher rides a calf around its pen after school. Despite his sisters cries not to, he enjoys riding the young cows until they throw him off. Barn cats drink extra milk from the cows in the afternoon. The Russell children don’t see the cats as pets, but rather as necessary help around the barn to prevent mouse infestation. Catherine, Christopher, Lacy, and Chris eat dinner with their family on a Sunday night. Dinner is a time where everyone can sit down after a long afternoon working outside on the farm. A stuffed deer head is mounted near the entrance of the family home. Shot by Chris’ grandfather who started the farm, it holds the gun that killed it.

Russell’s Farm is run and maintained by Chris Russell and his family. His six kids grew up learning how to take care of the dairy cows and the farm. Chris’ five daughters and son Christopher all began working at age five, gaining more responsibility as they get older. They understand their work on the farm comes before time with friends, and have gotten used to raising animals which are often sold, or pass away. Though it may be frustrating at times, they all learn to work with each other in order to get chores done before dinner.
